How to Spot Liability when Fido bites?

Man’s best friend is not always friendly. Statutory and case law in Georgia developed over decades to establish what duties dog owners owe to others and, when the dog bites, what conduct by the owner constitutes a “breach” of those duties. But as with any other tort, the question of “who can pay?” is just as important as “who was at fault?” As to the first question, the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals have issued a number of recent decisions addressing the circumstances under which a landlord can be liable for injuries caused by a tenant’s dog.
