FMG Announces New Partner Jeffrey W. Allen


Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP, is pleased to announce that Jeffrey W. Allen has joined the firm as a Partner in the San Francisco office.

Mr. Allen brings to Freeman Mathis & Gary over 30 years  of experience and a record of numerous jury cases tried to successful verdicts in California and Federal courts.  Mr. Allen’s trial successes include cases involving Catastrophic Personal Injury, Trucking and Transportation Litigation, General Liability, Products Liability, Professional Negligence, Employment and Civil Rights Litigation.  His practice also includes serving as primary defense counsel in California for one of the nation’s largest retailers as well as lead outside trial counsel for several national transportation companies.  He has served and continues to serve as a private and San Francisco Superior court-appointed arbitrator. 

Mr. Allen’s liability practice focuses on defense of retailers in a wide variety of claims, including cases involving premises liability, false imprisonment, warranty, product liability and catastrophic injury exposure.  His commercial and transportation experience includes defense of a number of multi million dollar claims against several nationally known trucking companies. He is a member of the national Trucking Industry Defense Association.

Throughout his career, Mr. Allen has successfully handled serious personal injury cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries including, traumatic brain injury, complex regional pain syndrome (reflex sympathetic dystrophy), paraplegia and quadriplegia.  He also has represented a wide variety of professionals including health care practitioners, insurance industry brokers/agents, attorneys and others in professional liability suits.

Mr. Allen has long been a leader in Civic, Legal and Bar organizations.  He has been the CYO Basketball Athletic Commissioner for Santa Maria Catholic Church in Orinda for 3 years, coaching youth (3rd through 8th grades) for 12 years. 

He has been member of multiple Legal and Bar  American Bar Association, Bar Association of San Francisco, Alameda County Bar Association, Contra Costa County Bar Association. He has also been a 30 year member of the Association of Defense Counsel for Northern California and the national Defense Research Institute (DRI) with historic involvement with the Retail & Hospitality Annual seminar held annually in May in Chicago, Illinois. He is also a member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA).

An accomplished lecturer, Mr. Allen has been an accredited MCLE provider and frequently addresses industry groups to discuss current issues, including Medicare/Medicaid/State and local county Lien practice, Howy’all Doing?—Howell vs Hamilton Meats Explained, Defending Against the Reptile Theory, among many other topics.

Mr. Allen is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (A.B. Economics with Distinction in General Scholarship, 1977) and the University of San Francisco Law School (J.D., 1981).
